Progress towards 0.6
Hello, while I'm making slow and steady progress towards 0.6 (what I'm calling the ''individualism update''), I thought I'd share a story from inside the game that occured while I was testing the new individual pop mechanics:
--------
The tale of Gabbie the farmer
So to begin with, I ordered my people to build a farm, as is sensible given our lack of food at game start. You can see in the first screenshot that I decided to herd animals.
Gabbie, an unemployed pop, took out a loan from the bank and invested the cash into the livestock farm (see gabbie in the second screenshot). Therefore, she became the owner of the farm, and gains the right to recieve any profit the farm makes.
In 0.5, each workplace is basically owned by the state, so prices are set in accodance with global supply and demand. In 0.6 however, since an individual pop controls the workplace, that pop can set the wages and prices to suit their own desire.
Thus, facing no competition from other workplaces, and controlling the only source of food in my society, Gabbie continuously lowered wages and raised prices until nearly all the cash belonged to her, and she could afford all the food she wanted while everyone else slaved away for her.
However, there are downsides to having dozens of people slave away for you; everyone (apart form Gabbie, who was naturally content with the status quo) began to vote for opposition representatives in the Castle Council, causing a ruckus. And strikes broke out on Gabbie's farm.
Thus, I face a choice going forward; do I double down on Gabbie supremcacy, and use her and her wealth as a loyal base for my regime, or do I try to redistribute wealth and power to improve stability?
-----------
Hopefully, dynamic stories like this should pop up constantly once I've fully released 0.6. I'm hoping to get it done in a few months, but we shall see. Until then, thank you for reading, and good luck managing your own Apocalyptic Empires!
